Thunderbird not closing, at times?

I posted elsewhere, and got no reply on an interesting issue.
I have only one TB installed, 2.0.04, and its profile is default. I, still, have a couple of other profiles from the past.
Once in a while, Thunderbird does not open. I think that I did not click on the shortcut, and still nothing. I get no message, but going to the Task Manager, I can see one Thunderbird.exe item of about 24MB, and as many 3MB thunderbird.exe as I click, in vain, again. I close the processes, and TB will open almost instantly. It happened, yesterday, after the computer had been shut down overnight, and, again, in the evening, after the computer had been shut down, since morning.
I keep a shortcut in the Quick Launch toolbar, and, it seems, for whatever reason that the problem shows up when I use that way to access TB.
I don't recall having had that problem with previous TB versions, or when TB is accessed from the Get Mail button.
Except for yesterday, the problem is sporadic, like every 10 days.
    Has anyone noticed this?

    Westside,

I've never experienced what you described.

Have you tried starting in Safe mode, and disabling all extensions and themes?
Start with Talkback, as it can cause problems. Give that a whirl and see if it helps. I never install Talkback, for that very reason, altho it is beneficial to the developers.

Does this happen when you start Thunderbird from the thunderbird.exe file?

If not, then it could be you have a corrupt shortcut, so try deleting the shortcut, and creating a new one. See if the problem recurs.

It could be that you will have to start from scratch on TB, clean the Registry, and create a new Profile.

I never had a problem with Firefox, nor starting TB from the Get Mail addon in Firefox. Since, deleting the thunderbird.exe instances was doing the trick, I did not pursue this any further, but a corrupted shortcut sounds like a distinct possibility. I am pretty sure that the problem began when I first got TB2.0, and there was no Get Mail, so I used a copy pf the shortcut in the Quick Launch toolbar. And, considering that it has been a sporadic problem, I paid little attention to it. One will, probably never be sure.

I meant to say thunderbird.exe, instead of firefox.exe. I corrected it so it will make more sense. If that file starts Thunderbird, then it's very likely that your Quick Launch shortcut is corrupt.

    Ramona,
I, pretty much, figured out what you meant. I did delete the Quick Launch shortcut, and created another one. Now, we will see if there is any difference between the alternate envelope shortcut, as provided, which I had been using, or the bad hairpiecem which comes by default.
Also, I had deleted the original shortcut, and worked only from the QL shortcut. Now, I have both.
