I am using OE6 in IE7 & I keep the message Store Folder in Drive E as I understand dbx files can become corrupt & less likely to do so if kept elsewhere other than the default email folder.
I suddenly discovered an unknown email folder in DriveC/My Docs & copied all the dbx files to the email folder in DriveE.
All the messages in the OE email folders disappeared, I have renamed the folders in driveD Store Folder having tried to import them, but still cannot import them - even tried copying them to another folder & changing the Store Folder in oe6 to no avail.
    Would be grateful for advice
    Many thanks

Zulubase - welcome to the Board :)

I have bad news for you :(

The files you copied from C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{C59F40B5-82BD-4533-823D-3649E60C0AEF}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Folders.dbx, etc have overwritten the .dbx files in your designated store on drive E:

By default OE locates the .dbx folders in the location above and even if you designate a new store location the default folders remain. Looking at the size and date of them might have sounded a few alarm bells.

If you have a backup of your E:drive - you should have, then you can copy the files back. If not I know of no way of recovering those files except by using a file recovery program such as PC Inspector File Recovery How successful you will be depends on the time scale between copying the other files to the E: drive and the activity on that drive in terms of writing to it. They may well be overwritten by now, but worth a try anyway.
I don't think that is the case - the benefit of keeping all your data, including the OE message Store on another drive/partition is the ease of backing up your data - on a regular basis, and the ability to format the root drive without losing any data.

Thank you PeteC for your helpful info, did download PCInspector, don't think it helped, what do you think about the program DBXtract, might that help & at least save my messages even only in text format?
If all else fails, is there a way of re-installing OE6, seems like a mess I've brought on myself, can't Send & Sent folder has disappeared(Inbox,Outbox, Deleted Items & Drafts are there) I get the following when trying to send! "An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C013E "
    Your assistance is much appreciated

You have to have access to the *.dbx files - unfortunately you do not have access.

If FileRecovery came up with nothing it must be assumed that the original files have been overwritten.

The first step in repairing OE 6 is to run An Outlook Express Repair Kit with particular reference to re-registering OE and it's associated library files.

Error Number: 0x800C013E - strangely this code is not listed in OLEXP: Outlook Express Error Codes although it is reported as 'An unknown error has occurred'.
