My neighbour from Japan has received a couple of DVD's which she cannot play. I have also tried with no success. The computer says it is a VR_Movie which has a VRO extension it also says it is a DVD_RTAV what ever that is.
Nero seems to be playing it but I have a blank screen with no sound .
Any help in playing these DVD's.
    Thanks Paul.

I see from your email address that you are in the UK ....

Possible you are falling foul of the regionality of DVD's - unless you or your neighbour have a region free DVD player....

Both the UK and Japan are in Region 2, but where were the DVD's sourced?

The DVD's were sourced in Japan and we don't have region free DVD player, I was hoping that there was some software to play them on the computers?

If you copied the file to your hard drive it probably still has the Read Only attribute from the DVD - right click on file > Properties > and uncheck Read only.

Yes I have tried that free download but it says they are an unreconisable format.

Let's start from the other end. Have your neighbors contact the couple who provided them with the DVD. Have then ask the brand/model of the recorder device which created the burn on the DVD disk. Once known, go to the manufacture's site to acquire programs / process to convert/play on a PC platform. Be aware, articles I came across required the CD/DVD to be set up (formatted and required options) a certain way to allow any reediting ... so the current disk may/may not be available for re-editing.

Thanks Tmarks, but that is so complicated and I didn't unerstand half of it.

Has any one got any suggestions on how I change the file extension from VRO to MPG?

This is why I suggested an approach in my post #14. Converting media from one format to another is not a "beginner" project. Knowing what program/device created the file is a start. Once known, possible tried and true approaches / converting programs can be found. Again keep in mind, how the CD/DVD is delivered may or may not allow any conversion of the VRO file(s).
