This is on a Dell Dimensions 4600C. Every thing is normal for doing the Scan Disk at Bootup but when it starts, I get "Cannot open Volumn for direct Access "

    Where do I start? Ideas?

    Thanks

    Hi Bill,
I would boot to the Win XP CD, go to the Recovery Console (first option to Repair Windows) and run
    chkdsk /r
    If you enter
    help
you will see the list of utilities that can be run and an explanation of their switches.

I have come across SCSI controllers in Dell machines (or might it be SATA?). You may want to check if it has some type of non-standard drive controller, you may need to load drivers for it when you run the Win XP CD.

It might have a hidden DOS partition which is causing the error.

Check FAQs for your model at Dell.

    Matt
PS Pull out and reseat the connections to all the drives, also the connections at the motherboard.

    Thanks for the reply Mattman.

The problem was fixed when I got the Smithfraud fixed. When I ran the Combo Fix, the scandisk started working...
