Sound comes but no sound card detected

    Hi
    I just would like to know the symtoms of the following problem.

    i cannot see my sound card in sound and audio devices in cpl. evrything is grayed out because all i can select is modem for play back & record devices. However i can hear sound from my sound card application which was supplied with the card. its onlt the windows sounds and windows games no sound.

    gumdigger - Welcome to the Board :)

    Does your motherboard also have an onboard sound chip and is this disabled?

    Is this a recent problem - any clue as to when it occurred?

    Have you tried reloading the motherboard chipset drivers - often include the sound drivers and/or the drivers for the plug in card which you appear to be using?

    No it does not have onboard ones. its a pci card.
