Everytime I log onto my computer, I get a security message informing me that the certificates have expired. I am also unable to log into my online banking. How can the certificates be updated or reset.

Hi, imbossy. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

I could be mistaken, but I seem to recall the date/time/time zone needs to be accurate before access to some secure servers can be gained.

Please right-click your computer's clock in the lower-right corner of your computer screen and select Adjust Date/Time.

Are your computer's date (including the year) and time set correctly and is your time zone correct under the "Time Zone" tab?

Are you able to update your computer time under the "Internet Time" tab?

What servers are configured under the Internet Time tab? The 3 that I currently have available are
    • utcnist.colorado.edu <--I manually added this time server to my computer's configuration.
    • time.windows.com
    • time.nist.gov

If you find your computer doesn't keep time well (especially after the computer has been off for a long period of time), then I think you should look into getting a new CMOS battery for your motherboard. It's probably about the size of a U.S.A. nickel. Turn off your computer, take that battery out, and find an exact replacement for it. (I'm guessing it is a 3V CR2032 which can be purchased just about anywhere batteries are sold.)

I noticed you are also currently seeking help with malware removal.

I suggest you do not perform any online banking while you suspect your computer has malware lurking about.

To be on the safe side, I would also suggest you notify your bank that your account information might have been accessed without your authorization.

Windows Update has a new set of updated certificates available. they aren't listed as Critical Updates, you need to select 'Custom' to get them under Recommended Updates.
