    Hi Guys
I am having intermittent problems with my mouse pointer (the little arrow). It will start moving real slow and jerky. Also if I click on something that would have a sound when clicked the sound will be garbled. I have a wireless mouse and I put new batteries in it and the receiver for the mouse is in the correct position. A friend of mine told me about this site and told me I need to download a program from here called "hijack thisâ€. I can’t find this download here though.
Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance. I am glad I found this site, it looks like a great resource of knowledge and help.:)

    Dave.

    Hi Dave
    Wekcome to windowsbbs.
This may or may not be malware related.

Click here to download "HJTsetup.exe ".

    1. Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    2. Double-click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
(By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis)
    3. Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
    4. Put a check by Create a desktop icon and then click Next again.
    5. Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    6. At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch HijackThis.
    7. Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button.
(It will scan and the log should open in Notepad.)
    8. Click on "Edit" > "Select All" to higlight the entire Notepad contents.
    9. Then click on "Edit" > "Copy ".
    10. Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
(Right-click in the message body field and select "Paste ".)
CAUTION: DO NOT have HijackThis "fix" anything without carefully following expert guidance. Otherwise, you might render your computer unstable or even unbootable. Most of what HijackThis finds will be harmless or even required.

    Hi DWA

I don't see any malware in your log.

Do you happen to have a wired mouse you could plug in and see if that one works?
It may be time for a new mouse.

    Let me know.

I was about to plug in my wired mouse as you suggested but I decided to look at the paper work that came with my wireless mouse first to see if I was missing something, and sure enough I was. I did not press the connect button on the receiver and the mouse I was only pressing the connect button on the mouse. I had forgotten the button was even there on the receiver.
Computer seems to be working fine now however it was an intermittent problem so I will not know for sure until I use the computer a little more.

That is good to know that I do not have any malware in my log. I had run Ad-Aware and Spybot just before doing the HijackThis maybe that helped. I also did the Panda scan after the Ad-Aware and the Spybot but before the HijackThis. The Panda scan found a few things like I think 19 items. Is it necessary to buy the Panda software to get rid of those items or not.

    Thanks for your help Geri.
    Dave

However when I was doing the scan my computer went to the "blue screen of deathâ€
    And it said.

After this happened I just restarted the computer and went and restarted the Panda scan and it finished this time. I also went to the Microsoft web site to check for updates because I noticed that my automatic updates was set to 3am and I do not leave my computer on all night anymore so I was not getting updated. The one update I needed was internet explorer 7 so I down loaded and installed it.
I have a wired mouse set up now because the wireless was still acting up even after I correctly connected it. So far the wired mouse is doing ok.
Sorry it took me awhile to respond I was out of town for the 4th of July.
    Thanks again

    HI
The Panda scan is just cookies. Here is a good Temp cleaner you can use to clear them out. ATF Cleaner.

    ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only

    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
      Under Main choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

The BSOD could have been from anything, your AV running at the same time as the scan or other things.

If it keeps doing this, post in the XP forms and someone there will be better able to help with that type of error.

Ok I ran the ATF cleaner.

If I keep having problems with the BOSD I will post in the XP forum as you said.

If I am having troubles with QuickTime where do I post that kind of question? I can not get it to work nor can I get it to uninstall.
