My first question is WHY is the above loading 4 times ?

Next. Loading the Internet explorer at startup may not be helping any.

Unless my thinking is way off there is even more load.

Over the years I have learned that the LESS loaded at startup may actually save time over all. Not only may save RAM space but keep down conflicts.

I have no idea why anything is loading any number of times. I am a novice at computers and am at this site for answers to my computer questions. If you can help me with my slow computer I would appreciate that.

Your log looks clean, though there is one entry that could be fixed.

It's associated with the yahoo toolbar, and not a problem other than it's reported as file missing.

One thing that may help is to clean out the temp files. Most easily done with ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

Save it to your Desktop.
Double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Check the boxes to the left of:

Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache
Recycle bin


The rest are optional - if you want it to remove everything check "Select All ".
Finally, click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.


The number 1 contributor to system slowdown on a laptop, in my experience, is dust buildup, which causes excessive heating of the processor. Many laptops are relatively easy to gain access to the necessary places for cleaning. What is the make and model? I'll see if I can locate a good set of instructions.

 

slow and now freezing computer

I got rid of that file and also downloaded the ATF CLeaner and ran that.
My system has 448 MB of RAM. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 1000. I closed down what I could find in the malware protection leaving the AVG operating. Any other ideas?

I was unsuccessful in finding a manual with instructions for accessing the processor/fan/air vents. I did however come accross something related to your problem in my search.
