    Hi Guys

I have just joined this forum yesterday. Reading through the forum as already helped me with one of the problem I was experiencing with my pc. I think that this site is excellent. Keep up the good work.;)

Back to my pc.. Well I have being having problems with it from the time I bought it. The biggest problem being it always restarted whenever the system got stuck or when I was copying data or music from the dvd/cd rom. That problem has been resolved by going to my computer->properties-> advanced and unchecking the auto restart when system fails. (thanks to you guys).

However now it goes to a blue screen and says something about a dump error. I restart the pc and it comes up with this error..
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa91/LowriderRunX/untitled.jpg (I dont know if it will open up).. ''

The pc is fairly new, I have recently fromatted it and loaded wondiws again, even bought a new samsung dvd writer coz i thought my BenQ was faulty.. And the fault still persists.

    It is a Pentium 4, 256 ram, 160Gig hard drive + 40 gig added

    Can anyone help me. Thanks:)

Jitesh - Welcome to the Board :)

We need an analysis of the dump file referred to in the Error Report Contents window of your screenshot ......

Go here and follow the instructions to analyse the dump and post the data here .....

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=33471

BTW - I notice that your RAM (256 Mb) is the minimum for XP to run reasonably well. You may like to think of increasing it to 512 Mb or 1 Gb.

    Hi Pete

I have downloaded and installed Debugwiz.zip. All ok.
I have also visited the microsoft website and installed the latest debugging tools.

This is what I did.. I opened DebugWiz, In the menu where it says "Dump file to be Analysed"

    I pressed browse button and chose the following directory "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\user.dmp "

The location of the debugging tools is stored in "C:\Program Files\Debugging Tools for Windows\cdb.exe ".

The command string to pass to the Debugger is set as " -logo c:\debuglog.txt -c "!analyze -v;r;kv;lmtn;.logclose;q" -y SRV*c:\symbols*
    http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols -i C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers -
    z "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\user.dmp" "

I then pressed the Generate log button, a Dos screen flashes and the a menu comes up saying "When the dos window closes, your dump output has been stored to C:\debuglog.txt "

Problem is when i go to c: directory that file is not there.. Any idea why??

I have the Show Hidden Files and Folders checked and the menu below which say hide unknown extensions is unchecked..

I am currently testing this out on my work pc since I do not have internet access at home, so this is not my faulty pc.

You must be connected to the Internet while debugging so that symbols can be downloaded if required. This means that you will need to bring your dump file to work for analysis if you have no internet connection at home.

If the DOS screen simply flashed the file has not been analysed - I would wait until you have the relevant file to hand.

Hi Guys this was one of my dump errors after i debugged it and copied it from C:\debug.txt
I took the dump files from C:\windows\minidump. I also have a full report of my pc with all the specifications which i generated from Everest home edition, let me know if you need it..

By the way I have copied all 37 dmp files from my mini dump folder on the pc, let me know if there is a way i can post it to you, maybe send a link or something. the size is 2.31 MB

    Hi Jitesh,
Just some things that may be important.

Do some checks yourself through the 2.3 megabytes of dumps, look for repetitious sections between reports. Check any upcoming dumps against previous ones. Can you identify similarities?

Have you done cleanups and checks? Disk Cleanup, deleted files in Contol Panel -> Internet Options? Run scans of antivirus and antispyware? Run Error Checking on your drives (see Help and Support).

Yes, 256 Mb of RAM will be very "tight" for XP, especially as the number of background programs grows. A low amount of RAM would normally be related to slow performance, especially as you open more programs.

Check your drives and consider getting more RAM (only alternative might be a reformat).

    Matt

Having another look, there are 2 or 3 references to the CD/DVD drive. The actual drivers for optical drives are basic Plug and Play type unless something like burning program software starts modifying them or adding things like "virtual" CD drives.

On the physical (hardware) side, check the cable connectors to the drive. Open the case, pull out the connectors and reseat them. Pull out and reseat the connector at the motherboard.

There may possibly be a clash of jumper settings for the drive. It needs to be set to a master or slave setting in relation to any other drive connected to that cable. If it set to CS (Cable Select) the other drive on the cable will also need a CS setting, then master/slave is determined by their location on the cable. Download the manual for the CD/DVD ROM drive from the manucturer's website (TSST Corp) and check it's jumper settings in relation to any other drive on that cable.

    Drivers...
The IDE controller drivers are mentioned. These are part of the chipset drivers and will be on the drivers CD that came with the computer. Even if you have installed the chipset drivers, they should be updated at the computer's/chipset manufacturer's website. Everest in my signature should give you details about your system (but if you have not installed the chipset drivers it may not be able to read the information :) )

Sorry to lead you through so many checks, but when you are finished you may be able to keep your computer humming along a little better...and keep it that way in the future ;)

    Matt
PS We posted at the same time, so I will check your new logs. Mmmm, still related to the optical drive so I think my checks in this reply are still relevant.

Thanks for your reply Mattman, REALLY appreciate you trying to help me..

I do have everest instaled on my pc.. ( See Report Below)..
Ok about checking cables, I have done that many times, this is my configuration,

Hard drive set as master, dvd writer set as slave, this goes to IDE0 port on mother board..

I have a second hard drive set as master on the IDE1 port.. Dont think the second HDD would be causing anything coz it was doing this even before i installed it..

About the configurations of the jumper settings, I am a bit unsure whether it is right or wrong.. However when the pc boots up it does say HDD is master and DVDRW is slave..

About the drivers, I have formatted the pc 2 weeks ago. I have an axper mother board, as soon as I loaded XP, i put the Axper driver cd and it installed all the drivers on its own.. I did not need to do anything. It even restarted on its own. All i did was click the install drivers button.

I even checked the device properties menu and there are no yellow question marks on any of the drivers..

Jitesh, you can go back and delete at least the last half of that report. In Everest, in the menu, you will see a Summary Report, you can post those unless you think the problem is "further down ".

You seem to have a very small amount of RAM compared to the CPU. The system RAM appears to be shared with the video/graphics...so you only have 223Mb of RAM available for system use. You have a dual core CPU running at 3.0 Ghz working with 220Mb(or so) of RAM. Mismatched in my opinion. You would need to be very careful with loading and unloading programs.

Getting more RAM might be a priority, but the errors appear to be related to the CD/DVD drive.

Do some background research on the jumper settings of the drives. (Learn how master/slave is different from cable select.)

Run through the hardware checks I suggested. (Reseat the connectors.)

    Update your chipset drivers.

LET US KNOW YOUR FINDINGS!

    Matt
Edit: What I forgot before repyling, there may possibly be a fault in the CD/DVD drive itself. Don't rule out that possibility (try another drive if you can...or try your drive in another computer and test it there).

I have re-read the thread after a day away ....
    :(
That is the default behaviour - restart on system failure.
Is this the only time the computer blue screens on a predictable/regular basis?

    0x000000D1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
I would look on the motherboard manufactuter's web site for updated chipset drivers and check for updated video drivers too. It is likely that there will be a 'package' of all motherboard drivers there.
check the RAM using Windows Memory Diagnostic or memtest.
Delete the Pagefile and set it up again ....

Right click on My Computer icon > Properties > Advanced > Performance > settings > Advanced - Virtual memory > Change. Click on No paging file and OK out and reboot. Then go to Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options View and check 'Show hidden files and folders' and uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files' > OK. Look in C: for pagefile.sys and delete it. Reboot and follow the same route to Virtual Memory outlined above and set the virtual memory to System managed and reboot. Then go back into Windows Explorer and revert the view settings to what they were oringially.

Looking at the Everest report the following are of some concern ....
Bottom line - the DVD drive may be faulty - can you check by substituting another?

hi guys I dont think the dvd writer can be faulty coz I bought a new samsung one very recently. I had a BenQ writer previously and it was doing the same thing. Maybe I am short of ram, will consider buying some, money is also a factor so do u tink another 256 Ram will Do. U think the ram could be causing all these problems. Will investigate the topics u brought up.. Thanks. About the CPU Temp, I have currently taken out the cover from my box just to see if it was causing the reboots (high Temp mayB)..

How exactly do i check for updated chipset drivers.. and video drivers:confused:

    Thanks guys
