Hi- I added a new user today but I cannot get her acct. to work on her station-- it says the "domain is not available." Other users can log onto the domain from her station, and the new user can log on at other stations!!! Using Windows 2000 Server, with Win2K OS on the workstations. What's wrong?? TIA>

First place to start is the DNS setting for the workstation. Is the primary DNS set to point at your AD server? It needs to be for network name resolution to work properly. Problems with name resolution often manifest as problems with log ins.

Thanks Reggie- I checked the DNS settings, compared it to another "behaving" workstation. Both machines pick up their DNS automatically, so that did not help. But HERE IS THE SOLUTION: I had the network cable in the wrong NIC card!!! With the cable plugged in correctly, now it contacts the Domain just fine. For some reason, when I logged onto that machine with my own username, it logged in OK even when the cable was out. Go figure!

Most likely because you had previously logged in from that machine. So you wasn't really logging into the domain, but the machine was using cached credentials.
