    Hi Sportsaholic,

Should have told you to do that

So if it does happen again, be sure to do so.

The Event Viewer records are still there (unless deleted by user). Look for any suspicious error messages. They are time stamped, so associate to when the previous mouse problems occurred.

I checked for any past errors but didn't find any. I will look there if it happens again at that specific time. Hopefully, driver reinstall solved issue.

    thanks again.

    Hi Sportsaholic,

Picking up on Dennis's failing port idea:

Going back through this thread, you describe the mouse as a regular compaq mouse - what's the connection type?

    USB or PS/2

If it's a USB, have you tried another usb port? (uninstall it 1st)

If a PS/2, you can get a usb adapter.

    Regards - Charles

I don't suppose KVM switch could be causing this? I've had the switch since Nov though. ps/2, BTW.

error in event viewer of "Application popup: firefox.exe - Application Error : The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application. "

Clicking OK didn't do anything. I had to hard boot and use last know good.

According to google. It has to do with my heaps, whatever that is. I have to increase them. Does that make sense?

I've never installed / run with a KVM. Does it require installing software/drivers? Having an KVM switch involved in the hardware configuration certainly adds a new twist. For now remove KVM (and any KVM software).
Per Firefox error, does it "time log" in Event Manager to mouse problem occurrence? At this point, I'm not sure if it would be relevant. Run without KVM, monitor for problem(s).

    Edit / Update
Sportsaholic, if you need to uninstall KVM software/drivers, it might be a good idea to "reinstall" mouse software. When you reinstalled mouse software previously, that seem to cure the problem for a short period.

there is no SW drivers involved. Just plug in and you are ready to go. I already reinstalled mouse driver after the problem happened earlier.

Are you referring to reinstalling mouse drivers via Charlesvar suggestion a week ago, if yes, please repeat again (after removing KVM). The possibility we have to consider now is the presence of the KVM is corrupting mouse drivers ... or other compatibility problems. KVM switches can be problematic. Also, cabling which comes with switch can be causing/adding to the problem. The simplest test for now, remove switch from config, reinstall mouse drivers, monitor for problems. If problem returns, I would not add KVM back in ... until we can isolate what is causing the problem.
