    Hello,
I am trying to establish a remote desktop connection on a home WAN between an XP pro PC and XP home laptop. I have configured both to allow Remote assistance, I have set my firewalls to allow Remote Desktop/TCP 3389. And I can ping each computer from the other. However, when I enter the IP address of the laptop/xphome into the computer field in RDC I receive error: Client cannot connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections. My wireless router is a Linksys wrt54g and my I am using dynamic IP addresses. All microsoft documentation has directed me to network administrator...which is me :D

Have you enabled Remote Desktop? You say Remote Assistance, it is not the same thing...
Right click my computer, click properties, and go to the Remote tab.
You have to check Remote Desktop there.
When you say you opened firewalls, have you opened windows firewall? Is your wireless router open for RDP?
You will also need a user with password on both computers, and it needs to be member of the Remote Desktop Users group
