    I'm trying to help my sister get her laptops setup so that she can share files between them. One is a Dell with WinXP Home w/SP2 and the other is a HP with Win Vista Home Premium. She has internet access via her satellite TV provider and has a wireless modem/router.

    What we've done so far;
    Both laptops have the same user account name and password, both have the same workgroup name. Drive sharing has been setup on both. We've installed the LLTDP patch on the XP one also.

    The XP laptop can see the Vista one and access the files there without a problem. The Vista laptop can see the XP one, but file access is denied saying 'you may not have permission to access'.

    I've done some searching on this but having found anything to try that we haven't already done. Does anyone have any idea what we've missed and has anyone been successful in making this work?

    I am having a similar problem, the laptop is Vista and the PC is XP. I want to transfer some files from the PC and put them onto the laptop, but I just don't have a clue what I'm doing, any suggestions?

    You can try to enable the guest account on win xp machine.
    Open start->run, type lusrmgr.msc, hit enter.
    Open Users folder and right click Guest and enable it.
