Windows 2K pro SP4 reboots immediately after connecting to the internet. I had several viruses and all have been removed, but during the user/password authorization step, the system reboots. No error message of any kind.

I suspect some setting(s) have been changed but I don't know what or where they maybe. I have my original 2k install CD, can I do a force install and will that overwrite all system settings but leave my application software in tact? Has anyone experienced this situation and have a solution?

Is your pc randomly rebooting itself? You can go to

Control Panel->System icon->Advance tab->Startup & Recovery Settings button. UNcheck/disable the "auto reboot" option. Instead of rebooting you'll probably get a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) which can be searched on for a solution.

You can go to http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1 to search on for example: STOP 0x00000050

It only reboots when I attempt to access the internet. I've made the changes you suggested and got a 'STOP' msg 0x0000001E (0xC0000005,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000) Kmode_Exception_Not_Handled. I'm researching it now. Thanks

    Hi, DblH. :)

If you follow the instructions in this link and paste a few DebugWiz-generated BSOD dump logs into this thread for your recent BDODs, the logs might provide helpful details. It's best to be connected to the Internet when running DebugWiz (which I realize might be a problem for you) so DebugWiz and the debugging tools can access the proper "symbols" for BSOD dump analysis.

EDIT: We currently have only one BSOD dump analysis expert (cpc2004) who stops in occasionally to help. If you manage to paste BSOD dump logs using the proper symbols, then we might be lucky and get a response from him. :)

I suspect you at least have leftover effects of malware in your computer. My hunch is a corrupted "layered service provider" (LSP) stack is preventing you from connecting to the Internet. A tool that might help you get the computer connected to the Internet is LSP-Fix 1.1 available via Major Geeks.

If you haven't done so already, I suggest you follow the directions in this link and paste a HijackThis (HJT) log in the Removing Spyware & Viruses forum.

Please make your thread title descriptive and include details about what malware you have already removed, what tools you have already used to remove malware, symptoms you are experiencing, etc.
