I know this should be easy, but.....I had backed up some data on a disk and somehow one of my file folders was converted to a program file.(Have no idea how????). Any way, I can't open this folder that contains excel files and I need to retreive data. Any suggestions on how to do convert back to a file folder?

Have you tried "renaming" the folder? Just drop off the .exe part. You may get a warning from windows saying you should not do this .. just ignore it. If system does not allow access to rename the folder, reboot computer into Safe Mode and try rename again.
BEFORE you do the above, what did you use to "run the backup ". I am aware of some backup programs which will create a .exe, but it is a file, generally involving some zip processing activity (part of "restore from backup" function).

    ADD EDIT
You may need admin rights to change file name, depending on where the folder resides and your privileges.
