i thought i would take the easy way to solve a problem with drivers and went to do a system restore prior to the install of the questionable driver. I selected my restore point and vista business went all the way through the process and then said not able to restore.

I selected another restore point and i get the same error. I tried a third and the same problem.

How do i get system restore to work. I remember in the early XP days you has to turn it off and then turn it back on and create a fresh restore point and it would work from then on. I haven't found the answer to vista.

    ideas?

    Hello ChomS,

To turn Vista's SR off/on, uncheck C in the Drive/Partitons being protected section of SR's dialog box > reboot and re -check C.

    Regards - Charles

symantec norton may also be the culprit

    thanks.

I didn't think to do this as a way of turning it off. I also posted this thread on the MS site and one of the responses was that symatec products block system restore and it seeks to change their files and it has a protect own files option.

If you uncheck this and then run, system restore works.
