    Hello,
I recently have a problem. It only happens when i open itunes or Quicktime. Here is the debug report. Everywere i search says that is a harware problem, but the fact is that i haven't replace or remove any hardware, have the same computer since 3 years ago. I allready runned the Intel Processor Frequency ID Utility and aparently everithing is ok.

I try to install itunes again but it reboots again during the installing process.

Could anybody help me. I noticed that is probably caused by the csrss.exe process.

    thanks!

    UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
    If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
    use .trap on that value
    Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
    Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: 00000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT
    Arg2: f8a07d70
    Arg3: 00000000
    Arg4: 00000000

Hi, xabraxasx. :) Welcome to Windows BBS!

    Following Arie's (and Microsoft's) lead...

The text Arie quoted suggests diagnosing possible hardware problems and using "especially the memory scanner "...

In case you decide to test your memory (RAM), all of the following RAM testers have been recommended in this forum. However, opinions differ about which RAM tester is "best ".
If you discover an error with any of these RAM testers and the RAM tester does not identify which RAM module is defective, then re-run the test with only a single RAM module installed until you identify which module is defective. (I am not familiar with the exact information output of any of these RAM testers when they find errors.)

Since the general consensus seems to be the RAM testers are "less than perfect ", I would be inclined to test your memory with all 3 of the RAM testers if necessary (one test utility at a time). If the RAM testers do not indicate anything wrong with the memory, then perform the alternative method steps I describe below.

    ==========

    Alternative Memory Diagnostic Method:
    1. Remove some of the memory modules from the computer (while the computer is off, of course).
      • For example, if two RAM modules are installed in your computer, remove one of the RAM modules.
    2. Start your computer and see if the problem goes away.
    3. If your computer still crashes, then replace that RAM module with another module, or install the module in a different memory slot.
    4. Start your computer and see if the problem goes away.
Continue this process to see if you can pinpoint the cause of your problem to a specific RAM module or slot.

    ==========

    You stated,
If your memory diagnosis does not indicate any problems with your RAM, then I would be inclined to update QuickTime/iTunes (if updates are available) or
    • uninstall QuickTime/iTunes via your computer's Add/Remove Programs,
    • reboot,
    • and then reinstall QuickTime/iTunes.
Although this is not attacking from the hardware angle, it seems like it would be fairly quick/easy to do.

If no joy, then resume investigating the problem via the hardware angle per the Microsoft instructions Arie quoted.

Here is another Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article that appears to apply to your crash dump information.
Click on the KB article I linked above to read details in the "RESOLUTION" section.

Please let us know if you need further assistance.

If you resolve your problem, please let us know details about that so other people with the same or similar problem who discover this thread might benefit. :)

    Good luck!

    I didn't say you did.

Would more likely be current hardware going bad.

    RAM Test

Ok, i ran the RAM test as you suggested and aparently everything is ok with the RAM. I try to uninstall itunes but during the process th pc dies again. Then i test the RAM removing and switching their module and the problem continues. Any other suggestion?

    thanks.

    Hi, xabraxasx. :)

Please download EVEREST Free Edition and double-click the file to extract it to a location of your choice. (I think it is a self-extracting stand-alone application so does not require installation.)

After extracting Everest, run everest.exe. EVEREST will provide LOTS of details about your computer, including voltages, CPU Type, CPU temperature, fan speeds, graphics card (GPU) temperature, etc.

The information of immediate interest are in EVEREST's following sections:
    • Computer > Summary
    • Computer > Sensor

Right-click on the "Summary" item in the left pane of EVEREST and then select Quick Report > Plain Text. Then save that information to disk. Name it Report-Summary. It should save in the "Reports" sub folder where EVEREST is located by default.

    • Do the same for the "Sensor" item in the left pane and save that file as Report-Sensor.

Open the Report-Summary.TXT file in Notepad and drag your mouse over only the information from the [Summary] section of the report. Then right-click on the highlighted text and select "Copy ". Open a Reply window for this forum thread, right-click in the message edit field, and select "Paste ".

    • Do the same for the Report-Sensor.TXT file. (Copy/Paste the information only in the [Sensor] section.)

Then we can help you do some more investigating about possible issues with your hardware. :)

Do the following tasks while the computer is OFF.
    • Check that all the adapter cards in the computer, including memory modules, are properly seated.
    • Use an ink eraser or an electrical contact treatment, available at electronics supply stores, to ensure adapter card contacts are clean.
      • Be sure to wipe the cleaned contacts with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth to remove all cleaning debris before reinstalling the adapter card into the computer.
      • Use compressed air (available in cans at most stores that sell computers) to clear out the adapter card slots before reinstalling the adapter cards into the computer.
    • Gently hold the CPU fan with a finger to keep the fan blades from spinning and blow short bursts of compressed air between the fins of the CPU heat sink to clear out any dust. DO NOT attempt removing the CPU heat sink from the CPU.
    • Gently brush off the dust from the fan blades of all fans.

After your hardware is properly cleaned and reinstalled, start your computer.

Please run EVEREST again and copy/paste the Sensor details in a follow-up message in this thread. (You might want to name the file differently like Report-Sensor-2 if you want to keep your original report and keep track of which file is newer.)

Then we can compare, discuss, and perhaps make further recommendations. :)

    xabraxasx,

If you do not care to keep copies of the EVEREST reports on your hard drive, then here are much simpler instructions :) for copying/pasting the EVEREST information to a forum message.

Open EVEREST to the Computer > Summary section and give it a moment to populate the Summary window with data.
    1. Right-click in a blank area of the Summary window and select "Copy All ".
    2. Open a Reply window for this forum thread.
    3. Right-click in the message edit field and select "Paste ".
Do the same for the Computer > Sensor section in EVEREST.

    Thank you.

It's weird that only happens when i try to run iTunes, QuickTime or when i'm trying to print sometrhing using AcrobatReader.

I tried to uninstall iTunes and QuickTime but like i allready told you, the pc dies during the unintall process. I also try to unisntall them in windows safe mode (f8) without success.

    Thank you for your interest.

    Jose.

    WHOA! Thank you. :)

I am not an expert :( so I didn't ask for the information in the [Debug] sections of those reports. I have no idea how to use the information in the [Debug] sections. Perhaps someone else reading this thread can decipher that information.

I did a quick comparison of your [Debug] sections and they appear to have identical information. If they are identical, you might want to edit your posts to remove all except your first-posted [Debug] sections. It would save the forum readers some scrolling. :)

Your entire "Summary 2" report probably isn't necessary either because I expect it contains exactly the same information as your 1st Summary report. (I haven't compared the two to be certain.)

The only "after cleaning" report requested was the Sensor 2 report.

I agree that's weird. When I get some time later, I'll look over your information in more detail and see what I can come up with.

I think that's your first mention of Adobe's "Acrobat Reader" (now known as "Adobe Reader" if I am not mistaken.) Thanks for the additional information. It might be helpful.

Please let us know any other patterns you may discover.

    BTW,
    • What version of Adobe Reader are you running?
    • What version of QuickTime?
    • What version of iTunes?
    • Do you also use an iPod? If so, what model?

    Hi again. :)

OK, looks like you have the latest version of Adobe Reader so you seem to be OK there.

Nothing in your Sensor information appears to me as abnormal except perhaps the CPU fan speed. Mine runs at approx. 4000 RPM. (Your CPU temperature looks OK though.)

I suggest you keep EVEREST running and frequently check your fan speed for awhile to see if it changes much (it will probably vary a little). We're looking for large changes in fan speed. If large changes occur, then that might be a problem.

I'm sorry about my unclear instructions regarding EVEREST reports.

Please, let's get some EVEREST Summary information back again so we can do some looking around the net about your specific hardware.

The latest QuickTime version is apparently 7.1.6 and the latest iTunes version is apparently 7.2. Perhaps updating those two applications will help.

I have QuickTime Pro 7.1.6 installed. My Programs list in Windows contains an "Apple Software Update" item I can manually click to check for updates if I wish. Perhaps you have one as well.

I recall having recently updated to v7.1.6 via QuickTime Pro's "Apple Software Update" window that pops up on my screen occasionally to inform me about updates. (It also pops up occasionally to nag me about installing iTunes too but I ignore that as much as I can. )

Anyway, I checked my Start > All Programs > QuickTime > About QuickTime and found the following information.
I do not have iTunes installed. I will see if I can find a version history at Apple. It seems there would be a lot of changes from version 7.1.1 to 7.2 anyway.

EDIT: I poked around the Internet a bit, specifically for apple.com pages containing version history information about iTunes, but I was unsuccessful. :(

However, I did stumble on additional information about QuickTime that lends further support to my suggestion you update to the latest version.

    Hi, Jose. :)

The fact you get a system crash (the same BUGCHECK_STR: 0x7f_8) every time you try to update QuickTime or iTunes really bothers me. Are those the only two applications (you know of) that produce the crash when you try to update?

Please scan your computer for viruses with the following free online scanner (using Internet Explorer).
Then please download/install Spybot Search & Destroy (free) and Ad-Aware 2007 Free.
    • Then immediately update those programs with the latest definitions.
    • Then scan your computer and see if they find any problems.
    • If they do find problems, then I suggest you have those applications fix the problems if they can.

Please let us know whether or not the scanners found/fixed anything. If they find/fix anything please let us know what they found/fixed.

(All of the anti-malware applications I suggested above are recommended via this link in the "If you need assistance removing malware/spyware/hijackers" thread link provided there. Malware-removal experts here at Windows BBS often direct malware victims to use those applications.)

    ==========

Thanks for re-posting your hardware summary info! :)

CAUTION: I strongly suggest we have Rockster or another hardware expert review this thread before taking any of the following actions. I am not comfortable yet about making recommendations regarding other people's hardware updates without an expert's guidance. Please wait for expert guidance before proceeding.

Your BIOS appears (to me) to be rather old according to this .PDF document at Intel.

Perhaps updating your BIOS to the most recent version will solve your issue.

It appears to me your native language may be Spanish-American (as indicated by clues in your EVEREST Summary report). I do not know if language makes a difference as far as BIOS, drivers, etc. are concerned. (I'm guessing it does not.) I think we should wait for input from an expert before proceeding though. :)

I started here to search for downloads related to your motherboard. (I do not know if the "Bay Field" designation for your motherboard is important.)

I think the proper BIOIS, chipset drivers, etc. for your motherboard are at the following locations:

I suggest we wait for confirmation and guidance from an expert. (I'm just being extra cautious.) :)

Mailman asked me to take a look at this one (went to the wrong thread before) and comment if I had anything to add. From my perspective, I'd encourage you to follow mailman's guidance and assess cleaning things up a bit inside your case if you haven't been there for a while. You can also check for any signs of leaking or bulging capacitors and it might be adviseable to clean the contacts on your memory and video card with a pencil eraser followed by alcohol. Sometimes dust and lint can accumulate and heat things up to the point of less than optimal performance - it makes a difference. Your video card, the 5200 series can take a big performance hit if it runs hot.

As to specifics - nothing jumps out at me based on whats been posted so far. It isn't going to hurt to update your software but I'm not sure thats going to bring you the relief you are seeking.

    ;)
