I have two computers on a small network, one is attached wirelessly the other wired.

    Both run windows XP.

Both have had access to the web without any issues.

Suddenly overnight neither of the machines can see HTTP pages although they can see HTTPS's. Email is working fine (other than HTML emails that link to external sources) as is IM'ing.

Tried accessing from each machine with the other switched off. Tried rebooting the router. XP firewall is active on each and there is a hardwware firewall. I have disabled the hardware firewall (as it is common for both computers) but issue is still there. I can ping www.google.com both by url and IP. Trying to access www by IP rather than URL doesn't work.

    Any other suggestions.

Answered that question for kathy2007 in Internet Explorer forum a few days ago.
But that was a Norton firewall issue although problem is identical.

For some reason a firewall is blocking incoming on port 80 that HTTP uses. HTTPS uses a different port.

Try turning the windows firewall off.
If that works, turn it back on – go to advanced tab – n hit restore defaults.

You turned hardware firewall off so that shouldn’t be an issue.
If everything then works turn the hardware firewall on and re-check.

Having tried switching everything off and now back on it seems to work.

    Thanks for your help
