Have a new HP Compaq Presario F557US laptop using windows vista basic. After a few days of fooling around with this piece of ****, I've run into a problem trying to create any restore points.

When I go into the area (system properties>system protection), the line above the disk drives says 'Configuration is disabled by group policy'. In the area below the disk drives, it says 'restore point creation disabled by group policy'.

In other words, I can not create any restore points because of this. Don't know what caused this to happen, but can't find any way to correct it. HP is of no help. Can't find anything elsewhere.

    Any body have any ideas???

    Hello drsandy,

I'm not on Vista at the moment.

Logged in as Admin, do a search on Restore Settings and see if you can change it.

    Regards - Charles

Well, I have the OEM vista home basic and it does not seem to have gpedit.msc.

Might be nice if I did. :)
