She is currently using Trend Micro Pc-Cillin Internet Security 2007.

If anyone can let us know if there's anything suspicious here please let me know. Her computer is running at a snail's pace and we're trying to figure out what's causing the slowdown. She is also using IE7.

    Thanks

    Hello jazcan,

Start by following the links in this post: http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=39425
for info on your running processes.

One example of an uneeded startup item: C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe

You may have to disable your startups and then re enable them one at time to see which are causing the slowness.

    Regards - Charles

    Thanks Charles,
Actually, I know there are several services there not required. I was more concerned that there might be an entry that could be linked to spyware.
    I didn't recognize:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1
I think it's an entry put there by an anti-virus program but I don't think it's the current one she is using.

When I googled it I got mixed results. Some suggest removing it others don't.
Thanks for the helpful link about running services. I will be using that one for myself as well as my mom.

you can remove or leave it - if you're not using a proxy, I would remove it. Or you can "comment" it out: put # in front of the line.

    Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\HOSTS - open with Notepad.

    Regards - Charles
