    I am running xp pro on an IBM netvista pentium 4 1300MHz with 768 megs of ram. Lately when I try to boot into safe mode by tapping f8 my computer just starts in regular mode. I can boot into safe mode using msconfig BOOT.INI but wondering why f8 has stopped working? I do not know if it is a related problem but my computer also turns of windows firewall and automatic uptates when I do a restart. Not sure if this is the place to post hijackthis logs because I am new but here it is.

    It looks like you are infected with a Worm, possibly W32/Rbot-GRE but you'd better wait for someone better versed in this before taking any drastic action.

    While waiting, you could update your AVG (if needed) and run a full drive scan on the system drive. Allow any fix proposed.

    If AVG finds nothing, go online and get allow the free scan from Housecall

    Part of this may be related to running non-genuine software and changes made to accomodate this. The giveaway is the fact that you are running MU Blinder (O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [muBlinder] C:\Downloads\muBlinder\muBlinder.exe -startup)

    It looks like you also removed WebRoot SpySweeper at some point in time but its still trying to run at start up. (O20 - Winlogon Notify: WRNotifier - WRLogonNTF.dll (file missing))

    Further to Surferdudes comments on W32/Rbot-GRE (C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEexplore32.exe) perhaps one of the experts here can help you. Please wait until one of them has had an opportunity to review your log and make recommendations ...........

    None Genuine

    Had to use Mu Blinder after a shop repaired my original XP installation. I have had no problems until recently. Computer worked great for about a year now. Probably a download or setting adjustment had something to do with it but I can not diagnose it. I ran PC-cillin and it came up with TROJ_ZOLB.DGY, WORM_RBOT.FJZ and TROJ_GENERIC I am not sure if my computer is clean now but will run hikackthis again and post new log

    Looks like a bot infection.

    Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

    Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
    • Choose your usual account.
    • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    • It will remove any Trojan Services or Registry Entries found then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt.
    • Finally copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log
