Intel Audio Studio Problems

    Hello all!

    Don't know why, but all my audio has been running intermittently lately (about two weeks or so). Thought it might be malware so asked Temerc to have a look. Doesn't appear to be. Tried reinstalling drivers to no avail. Then... today, I noticed that when I was in Setup>Audio Ports feature of Intel Audio Studio, when the sound cut out, an arrow would point at the headphone input display (front panel) and then would go away when the sound came back.

    My Desktop board is D945GPM Version AAD21427-106 and I am running Windows XP Pro.

    Could someone please come to my rescue? This is very aggravating. By the way, it is not just media player this is happening with. Any sort of audio is affected.

    Because it is intermittent and the Intel program can "see" and highlight the fault, it may be a connection problem. First thing I would do is open the case and reseat each of the connectors from the front panel, one after another.

    Can you test by plugging in at the back of the computer? You don't say if you are even using a headphone connected at the front of the computer (?)

    It may possibly be a configuration problem. What type of speakers/headphones are you using (speakers can be stereo, 5.1 channel, 7.1...etc). Are you using any input devices, eg., microphone, headset, err...MIDI keyboard?:D The output and input jacks may need to be changed according to the output and input devices you wish to use.

    I might consider uninstalling all audio software (many programs have audio players to install) including the "studio ", and only reinstalling those I wanted and was happy and familar with.

    Could there be a program that is "taking control" of the audio for a brief time?

    Hi guys. I've contacted the Intel folks for some help. I've included the emails for your information. My problem is I am not very computer literate (although getting a little better).. Would somebody please decipher out of computerese and help me with step by step instructions? As you can tell by my reply to "Daniel" I don't even know how to determine what my audio driver is.

    Please help some more!!!

    We understand you are having problems with the onboard audio.

    Here are our recommendations:

    We assume you have already done the following:

    - Check the volume settings under Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices in Control Panel.
    - The speakers you are using are self-powered.

    If the above is true, then, our recommendation is the following:

    1. Uninstall the audio driver from Add/Remove Programs.

    2. Restart the system and go into BIOS by pressing <F2> during the boot process. Once in the BIOS setup utility, press <F9> to restore BIOS default settings. Reset any customized BIOS settings. Clear all DMI event logs, which are located in the Advanced/Event Log Configuration section of the BIOS Setup utility. Ensure Sound is enabled. Press <F10> to save the new settings and reboot the system.

    3. Download and install the latest audio driver from the following URL:

    If you need instructions on how to properly install the driver, please, refer to the following URL:

    Hello Daniel.

    Thnak you for your response, however, I am a beginner computer user and
    really must burden you with asking you to provide instructions that are as
    easy to understand as possible.

    Insofar as your first instructions about Uninstalling the audio driver, I
    really don't know what an audio driver is. I did go into device manager and
    found that I have an audio device called "Legacy Audio Driver" but doesn't
    give me any other information. Tells me it has an unknown location and is a
    standard system device. And doesn't say anything under properties. Also
    when I go to Add/remove Programs, I see only Sigma Tel Audio as the only
    thing that relates to audio except forIntel Audio studio which won't let me
    remove it. So... I really haven't done anything yet.

    The original problem is my audio is playing intermittently, and only
    recently I have noticed that when looking at the panel displays on the audio
    studio, when sound stops, an arrow will display at the headphone input and
    when sound begins again, the arrow goes away.

    I'm really sorry that I'm unable to follow the first set of instructions
    from you however, I find this audio issue very aggravating and tend to be
    nervous of doing something that I'm unsure of.

    I would like to thank you for your help so far and would really appreciate
    anything that you could do to ease my transition into beginner computerese.

    Dana, rereading from the start, do you have the speakers connected to the main audio outputs at the back of the computer?

    There is a diagram here (not your motherboard):

    If you have a set of two speakers, the connector should be plugged into the green output.

    If you already have the speakers connected to that output, let us know. I somehow think that the speakers are connected to a headphone output and are "dropping out" because they should be connected to a speaker output.

    Basically, are the speakers connected to the green audio port at the back of the computer?

    I might think that the flashing arrow is saying that the connections are wrong.

    Hello, No, I double checked and connections are OK. I wasn't having any problems at all and then out of the blue, this problem started. (I did download a Windows update just prior to this showing up.) I also did a system restore to an earlier date prior to the Windows update but didn't help.

    Looking at the audio driver downloads for your motherboard, there are four different drivers:

    It sounds like you have both Intel and Sigmatel systems installed, whereas it looks like you only need one or the other. You should boot into Safe Mode (tap the F8 key rapidly just before you would normally see the Windows loading screen at startup) and try uninstalling both audio programs there. Boot back into normal mode and run the new driver installation program.
