    Hi,
I have a pc running xp home. The machine is pretty much brand new (2 weeks old). Before using i installed all windows critical updates and symantec corporate antivirus 10. I created 3 accounts on it.

Now after about a week of use it boots to the log in screen fine. Once logged in the machine comes to a crunching halt. The machine is unresponsive. I can not even get the task list to come up. Not one of the users remembers anything unusual being installed or remembers anything unusual in their emails/ browsing!

I have booted into safe mode

and removed "SearchAssist" from "add/remove programs "
scanned with spybot 1.4 - found nothing
scanned with symantec corporate 10 - found nothing

installed avg 7.5 in safe mode but can not seem to run it. I get the error " Connection to server failed. please reinstall avg "

I have used HijackThis before but i know you guys like to do other stuff before we get to that. What do you guys recommend?

    Thanks
    Andy
