    Hi All.

I have just downloaded a program from the net.
After unzipping the software I clicked on the setup.exe file
which then initializes the wizard which then goes to the programs
screen, but in the center there is this small window with a red circle
with a white x on it and a button at the bottom with an ok on it.

I clicked on the ok button and it just flickered, and nothing else
happened. I kept clicking this ok button but still nothing happened.
So I exited out of the setup, then there was a message saying the
wizard had not finished setting up the program and it had a resume
or exit buttons at the bottom.

I continually tried to run the setup, but got the same result.

My version of Win XP is 5.1.2600(WinXPRetail) I have the home
edition. It is an upgrade version.

Can someone suggest a solution to my problem please
    Regards, Robert

It's hard to say what the mystery button you are clicking is doing. Try right-clicking it and see if it will give you the option to "Show Picture. "

Perhaps you aren't waiting long enough for the install to complete.

Can you provide a link to the download so we can test it?

Robert, I downloaded and unzipped the file. Then ran setup.exe and it completed with no errors. I rebooted as I was asked. When I clicked the Desktop icon it created to run the program, I got an error reporting that file VCLDB40.BPL could not be found and it suggested re-installing might cure that problem. I did the re-install and it did not cure the problem

I think this software is not reliably compatible with all system configurations based on that experience. Like you, I run XP Home with SP2.

    Hi Superdude2,

I should have told you the program needs to have a 16 bit program AR.EXE and another program PKUNZIP also possibly a 16 bit program for it to work.

If you can successfully install the program on your version of WinXP, then why can I not install the software on my version of WinXP?

I informed you my version is -- 5.1.2600(WinXPRetail)

    Regards, Robert

    Hi All,

Here is a bit more information on the program I was trying to setup on my version of WinXPHome version 5.1.2600(WinXPRetail).
The program was a Borland C++Pro Builder, which used the Paradox Database.
The installer installed this program on Win 98 with no problems.
It also installed the DOS PKUNZIP (16 bit) unzipper program at the same time which it uses.
I have recently upgraded from Win 98 to my current Windows OS WinXP Home edition version as above.

I have been since informed by the software supplier that other people have had similar problems, but these have been fixed after some of the WinXP settings have been changed.

Does anyone know what these settings could be in WindowsXP that need to be changed to enable this program to be setup and run on my version of WinXP as stated above please?.

    Regards, Robert
