We have netscape 7.2 and have a problem with some e-mails returning
from 5 years ago after being deleted.
We cant get any messages downloaded from our ISP after this happens.

    Any help?

Are you compacting your folders? It does not seem like you have been doing it, as deleted messages are still attached to the Inbox after deletion, until folders are compacted.

    Thanks for your response.
Yes we have done that. Old messages still come up preventing us from
    downloading e-mails from our ISP

I have never heard of your problem. And, even less I understand why you would be prevented to downloading mail from your ISP. What is the size (in MB) of the Inbox file? Also, I would go to your ISP Webmail, and delete the unwanted messages which may be present. What are your Server Settings? In particular the last four lines. Are all boxes checked?

We emptied the inbox file so 0 mb. We checked the server settings--all ok.
All unwanted e-mails are deleted. The unwanted messages dont appear on our ISP Webmail. They just show up on the inbox --They must be on the hard drive somewhere but we cant find them

    Welcome to the Forum, tyler!

    tyler,

Look for your Mail Account folder location here:
    http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/mailfldrloc.html

Compacting the Inbox should have corrected the problem with old Mail, however, since it didn't try this:

Close Netscape and Quick Launch (if enabled)
Browse to your Mail Account Folder
Delete all files with an MSF extension, e.g.,
    Inbox.msf
    Sent.msf

DO NOT delete any files without an msf extension. These are the files which contain your Mail. Once you restart Netscape, pristine MSF files will be created.

If still no joy, then with Netscape closed:

Browse to the Mail Account folder, and rename the Inbox file to OldInbox

Netscape will rebuild a pristine Inbox on restart. Hopefully, the deleted messages will have gone to message heaven, or hades, whichever applies! ;)

Let us know if you are successful with any of the workarounds.
