I have a windows xp machine and I installed virtual machine on it. I have one VM with windows xp on it and I tried to install windows 2000 on another VM. However, while trying to install windows 2000 pro on a VM I get a warning that if I continue I will erase the start up disk. So my questions is: can I install windows 2000 on a VM while the local computer is running windows xp?

Yes, I do, but it's in the middle of the install that I'm warned about erasing the startup disk.

Sounds a little too late now??? Or did you stop it?

It's been a few months since I've created a new Virt Machine. If anything, it sounds like it is maybe over writting your Virtual XP....

I was giving the option to cancel the install, so I canceled it.

I backed up my system, then I proceeded to install windows 2000 in a virtual machine and it worked! It did not erase my startup disk while in the process.
