I have the o/s system windows 2000. I am unable to get onto the internet. I called my service provider and it seems that they cannot get me online either. I have DSL. One tech told me that I was missing a component which is called a winsock. It seems it cannot read my computer but I am getting service to my modem. I dont have the original installation disk. What can I do to restore this problem and get back on to the internet. Thanks.

    Sally:)

    What is your network setup?
Do you have a modem connected to your computer, or a modem + a router?
Anyway you should start checking if you got an IP. Go to Start->Run, type cmd and hit enter. Type in "ipconfig /all ", and hit enter.
What does it says on DHCP enabled, ip adress, subnet mask, gateway, and dns?
Try typing ping google.com in the same window. Do you get respons?
If not, try to ping the gateway. If that works type nslookup, and then type google.com.
Try this and let us know what happens..
