Web browser connecting to internet but programs are not.

Ok so I recently had to restore my computer and since I did that, only IE and Firefox have been able to access the internet. Programs like AIM and Full Tilt Poker can't. I've tried turning off the windows firewall but that didnt help. I have cable internet if that helps. And when I try to update windows it gives me a 0x80072F8F error that says my clock isnt right but ive made it so its right and even followed steps i found on here to fix that, but it still gets that error. I dont know if that has anything to do with my internet connecting problems but i thought it would be good to throw that in there.

Is internet explorer\firefox configured with proxy settings? Maybe your router works as a proxy. Try removing automatic detect setting in IE\FF to see if it still works.
