I have a Pix resizer software that has been opening and running OK but recently before it will open I get this message ....wait till windows installs
    hpmdinst.

However it fails to find/restore hpmdinst and so I cancel the process and Pix resizer opens.

Any suggestions as to why Pix resizer is now not openeing straightway?

    Thanks

Try the Windows Installer Cleanup tool.

    Installer Cleanup Tool

It is referenced in a thread for a problem similar to yours. Read about it here and see what you think. It's down in post #5 at that site. Perhaps try to Google for some more info on how to use it.

Have you ever installed a HP Camera or uninstalled one lately? That file is apparently associated with it from what I can find.

    SurferDude,
Thanks for your prompt response...BUT..how did you find it...Google or what?

The scary part now is the proper selective use of the program as it opens up to a number and talka about permanent changes????

I found that first link to the thread that referenced the tool with Google. I downloaded and ran a test with it.

I think it can be useful for cleaning up an un-install that has gone awry. You would not normally run it against anything you want to keep except in very specific circumstances. If you have installed or un-installed some software recently that did not complete properly, it could possibly clean up that error message for you.

In your case, if you don't see any reference to the HP software for a camera or something similar that uses the HPMDINST, I doubt it will be of service to you.

From what I gather, the file or software that is causing your error is possibly a HP Memory Disk that comes with some HP camera. Does that ring any bell for you?

BTW, I learned that running that download a second time un-installs the tool. That's neat.

Yeh, no problem there it's just that I haven't uninstalled any of my HP harware.

I can probably dig up my disk but in the meantime I am searching for an alternative fix as this happened to me before and if I actually have the "hpmdinst" on file then it might be easiest to access that if and when required..so I am hunting around for that possibility.

OK, good luck with that. It may be as simple as just uninstalling and reinstalling the camera or whatever.

    Thanks for your assistance.

After chasing around the Net. but having to pay for a download I opted to un-and re-install HP all in one Printer/scanner which fixed the problem.

    Thanks again
