I am running XP media center. Several of my Icons were replaced with generic Icons. I was able to reset most by using the properties function. However the My computer Icon and the My Documents Icon on the Desktop do not allow you to choose an Icon through the properties function. The Icons Work Properly . They just look funny.

Any suggestion as to how I can get the standard Icon look Back?

It sounds like a case of Icon Cache corruption.

You can delete the various caches for all users and they will be rebuilt anew when you reboot.

Do a drive search for iconcache.db and when all (there will be one for each user plus one for the Administrator account) are found, right-click > delete them all. Reboot for effect.

I must add that TweakUI can also repair the Icons.
