I have a desktop (XP SP2) and a laptop (XP Pro SP2) and want to set up a home-office network so that I can share files back and forth between the two.

I used the network setup wizard on the desktop to create a network. At the end, it asked me to insert a floppy disc to copy the network settings so that I could run them on the laptop to set it up. Problem is, the laptop does not have a floppy drive.

Are there simple instructions anywhere that tell me how to set up the network? Can I set it up without a floppy disc?

    Thanks.

    Tony, thanks.

I ran the wizard on both computers and created a workgroup called Home_net.

Both the desktop and the laptop show Home_net. On the desktop, I can see the Laptop under "view workgroup computers" but when I click on it, it tells me I don't have permission to view that computer.

On the laptop, I can see Home_net, but when I click on it, it gives me the same error... "You might not have permission to use the network resource "

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,.

Yes, it is (at least for the "My Documents" folders on each).

Are you a local administrator on both machine?
Do you have the "Client for microsoft network" installed on the active network cards?
Do you get an option to type username and password when you get the error?
Also try goin to start-run, and type \\computername , and hit enter.
If you want an enviroment with no username\passord, i think you need to enable guest account on both computers.
