I have a 40 gig HD, as NTFS, now due to it’s "disk write errors" etc, have bought a new 60 gig HD to replace it, now have a dilemma:

-I sucessfully created dual boot W98 & wins 2000 pro Operating systems on new 60gig HD, left it as fat 32, so data can be shared

-but my old HD is NTFS,so I have no way for new HD-as fat 32-to see old data ,I want to copy

can you convert NTFS to FAT 32 in Windows 2000?

Without having to buy PartitionMagic 7 update?

No, as of right now Microsoft only allows you to go from FAT32 to NTFS. There are other utilities (such as PM as you mentioned) that will allow you to do so but I cannot vouch for any of them having not used them.

Cannot you not boot to your NTFS partition long enough to move the files from there over to the FAT32 parition?

Note: I have heard others mention on here about apps that allow FAT32 partitions to read NTFS partitions but I can't recall any off the top of my head.

If you have another PC you can network to that one, easy enough to move your files since the network connection won't care what file version/OS version is being run.

    You can download the demo.

But I have window 2000 with 2 partitions: one boot partition(system fiiles) C in fat32 and one apps partitions D in NTFS. they can see each other w/o problem.

can you format rest of a HD , after formating & installing OS?

another question, can you format rest of a HD , after formating & installing OS?

Or must I reformat & wipe clean again?

I used fdisk to create primary petition, fat 32,then installed W98, then K2000,but ididnt create another partiton ,as you did for apps in NFTS?

Go into Computer Management in Windows 2000 and you'll be able to format the rest of your drive(s) using the Disk Management snap-in.
