Recently we added a new Domain to our network. All are users authenticate to this new Domain. Problem is when we switch them from the old Domain to the new Domain. A new user profile is created on their local machine, which doesnt have any of their original settings email, documents etc.. are under the old user profile stored locally on their workstation, some machines take up to 2 hours to import mail, copy documents etc.

Is there a way to tell win2000 to use the old profile instead of the new? Instead of going thru the hassle of copying everything manually to the new profile?

note: None of their document, mail, settings etc... were stored on the old Domain.

For the most part when you switched domains and the users logged in, they computers saw the users as new users of their PC's and forced the creation of the new profiles. You can copy the contents of the profiles on the PC's, but your users will have to configure a lot of their stuff manually.

Log into the PCs with an Administrative account

Right Click My Computer, User Profiles

Select the old profile, copy to and put it onto server in new domain

In AD Users and Computers on new domain, select the user, select the profile tab and define the profile that you've just copied to the server

This will cause the users to have roaming profiles and thus do away with this problem
