    Outlook Express 6:

I'm trying to find a program that not only backs up emails and settings, but restores them properly.

Before you rush into print with suggestions, I should say that, as an IT tech, I reckon I've tried just about every app that purports to do this dual work, but so far I haven't found anything that works.

When I build a new computer for a client, I backup all their email-related files from their old computer and transfer them to the new machine.

The ideal method for me would be to install a backup\transfer program to the old pc and run the backup, preferably creating a self-installing executable file in the process.

Then, all I'd need to do would be to run the executable on the new pc (which will only have an empty OE identity) to transfer all of the customer's files (messages, address book, rules, settings etc etc) into the empty identity.

Sounds like a tough call? Well, at least one app, Geniesoft Outlook Express Backup purports to do this. I say 'purports' because it sure as h**l DOESN'T do this.

Hence my asking you wise folk here on Windows BBS if you know of (personally, please - not just from hearsay or reading some internet puffery ) an app that actually does the job.

If this is too tough a call, then I can live with an app that needs to be installed on both machines, as long as it will restore into an empty identity.

Thank you for taking the time to read and understand my question :)

    Wich OS are you using?

If XP, have you tried the "File & Configuration Backup Wizar "?

I alwyas end up using OE restore menus since I never found anything easier and faster. So far, didn't have any problems with it.

Thanks, fg28. The target OS is always XP. Never tried the wizard, probably because it's not usually available on source computers, which often run other OSs than XP. (98 mostly)

However, I found that the best app for my needs (which needs installing on both pcs, but you can't have everything, I guess :)) is Outlook Express Backup Expert.

    Your input was appreciated...
