I use my PCs at home and I'm the only user. So I don't need or use any password, don't need any User Accounts or Guest accounts. I just want to be able to boot up the PC and be into Windows with the minimum delay and no hiccups.

I've achieved this on my HTPC. After the 'Welcome' screen Windows opens - simple as that. Trouble is I don't know how I managed to set this up and I can't replicate it on my desktop machine - which is infuriating. What's even worse is that this has only begun to happen since I was forced to uninstall/reinstall Windows. And now I can't access my desktop machine from other machine(s) on my LAN without giving a password - which I can't give because I avoided creating one (see above)!

Both (different) copies of WinXP were installed on the respective PCs using different slipstreamed CD-ROMS (produced with nlight). The desktop PC takes me from the Windows splash screen to a Welcome screen but (unlike the HTPC) I have to click on my account name before Windows will open (and there's another account as well called "new user "; both accounts are designated computer administrator).

I've tried fiddling about with 'User Accounts' in 'Control Panel' but nothing I've tried has succeeded. Do I have to edit the Registry? If so, could someone please give me a step-by-step tutorial?

Have you thought what would happen if your computer was stolen or someone broke into the house? All your data - personal and other would be there for the taking.

Your cautionary advice is well taken:)

However, I've weighed-up the risks and have considered them worth running, in the light of where I live. I could, of course, have cause to regret this decision one day. Lets hope not!
