If you have what I have you should have a narrow All Folders pane. below that, you should have Name. There is a small icon which allows you to select various things, like Total, Unread and Size. Actually, Unread is given without any selection, in parenthesis. Total will give you read+unread.
I don't think that this is anything new. It is the same choice as given in Seamonkey, and probably was in Netscape6/7

    Gaston,

The thumbnail below is the icon referred to by Westside:

Given the old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words, click on the circled button (see screenshot) and select Total from the drop-down menu. You'll then see the number of messages in each folder.

Gaston, there are two small icons, if you have the same set up as I have. One next to Name, as Ramona showed you. The narrow list of accounts is on the left. On the right you have the mail headers list, with sender, subject, etc. and another icon. That's not it.

    Westside,

I don't have that icon like the attached thumbnails of Ramona and JSS3RD, the name showing is all folders.

    Gaston,
so you don't see anything like Ramona indicated, highlighted with an arrow in the same line as Name?
If so, are you using a Theme other than the standard one? I do, and the icon is different, but there is something at the end of the line.

    Gaston,

There is a setting which may not be enabled:

    Tools | Options | Advanced | General

Enable: Show expanded columns in the folder pane

Ramona!!!!!! Thanks for that tip. When I changed from NS to TB, I missed not seeing how many emails I had in my folders. I could see it in the lower right hand corner but really missed it being in the pane.
I pride myself on checking out every option in new software. But I sure overlooked that one!

I think that the setting is enabled by default. I, never, made any changes since I got TB, and I would have been screaming long ago, if I did not see the expanded panes.

    Gaston, and Aunt Polly,

Glad that the setting let you view the # of messages again. This seems to be a random thing with users.

    Capt,
I had as much trouble finding the two preferences in SM1.0.9 as who you were quoting.

    Fulvio,
    I was quoting:

    defaults\pref\all-thunderbird.js

    file
I don't have 1.0.9 and could not find the referenced prefs anyplace in SM 1.1.1 or 1.1.2......

    regards:captjlddavis

I was trying to find the point of origin of the quote, and could not find. Otherwise, I agree with you. Neither 1.0.9 nor 1.1.2 have the two preferences in mailnews.js.

    Westside ...

The origin of the quote is found in (your path will be different):
    E:\MOZILLA\THUNDERBIRD\PROGRAM\TB2.0\defaults\pref\all-thunderbird.js
The Capt. made it clear that the quote is found in a Thunderbird file, NOT in Seamonkey.

    HTH.
