I've scoured the web and searched these forums and cannot figure this out. I'm running XP Pro (Media Center edition) SP2 and have created a limited account. When logged into this limited account, I cannot play any media files using Windows Media Player.

There are no errors and simply clicking on wmplayer.exe does nothing as well. Nothing logged to event viewer either so what gives? I've checked the files and they are valid in that they will play with my admin account. The files in question are older media files and those downloaded from the internet.

Not sure what's going on here. Any help is appreciated.

Log off of the Limited accnt.

    Log on as Administrator.

While on as Administrator go to Control panel open User Accounts click the Icon of the Limited Accnt then click change Account type.

Then click to make this accnt an Administrator. Close all and reboot.

Now if for some reason you do not want to change this accnt to Admin there is a way to run these programs from a limited accnt.

Instead of Dbl clicking say Windows Media player rt click it chose RunAs and then chose Administrator and enter the Administrator password.

    Mr Mod

I apologize for any offensive comment.

I don't remember what you edited!

But I don't remember what I could have said. Would you PM the comment to me so I will not do it again.

Whatever it was I don't remember anything negitive in my intentions, so it was not ment to be offensive.

I did the "run as ", and it does work, but was hoping there would be a setting in registry or somewhere so I wouldn't have to do it every time that account logs on.

Is it just that the limited account is so extremely locked down, especially with streaming media from the web?
