    Hello everyone,

I have had some computer issues for the past several months. I have had it fixed since and it seems to be running ok. Except that now I'm having problems downloading anything. It begins just fine and then it just hangs there. The little folder shows its tranferring to the other folder but the percentage remains the same for a long period of time and it never finishes downloading. I usually cancel the downloads and try again but to no avail. Is there anything to fix this problem? Thank you! :)

Is it a large file you are trying to download? also im guessing its IE you are using as your browser? What version?

Do you have the latest windows updates etc?

Also have you tried doing a disk cleanup?

    Hi there,

I'm trying to download a game 22.7 mb approx. I've just reinstalled IE7 and the updates, and I did a disk clean up. I did notice though that if I refresh during the download hang it picks up where it left off and eventually completes. Whewww, that's a pain. Is there something wrong with my system? I appreciate your response.

Are your download problems confined to a specific site?

    Hi Pete C,

Sorry about the thread problem. I'm truly sorry.

No, it's not confined to any website in particular. It's all websites and all downloads.

    Thanks

Difficult problem to pinpoint, but I would clear out your Temporary Internet files and see if that helps ...

Tools > Internet Options > Browsing History > Temporary Internet Files.

I've done that several times and it continues to hang. I've tried a lot of things and to no avail unfortunately. I think I goofed it up when I uninstalled IE7 for IE6 and then reinstalled IE7 again. Maybe?

I would not normally suggest this as MVP, but I suggest you download and install Firefox as an experiment. If the download problem disappears using Firefox this would confirm IE as the root of the problem, but if the problem remains the cause is elsewhere.

Another thought - do you have the Yahoo toolbar installed?

I'll try the experiment and let you know. No, I don't have Yahoo Toolbar or any other except what comes with IE7. :p

    Hi Pete,

Just to let you know, it worked. Do I keep Firefox or do I uninstall it now?
Thanks, it's good to be able to download without refreshing constantly to do it. :)

Well that rather confirms a problem in IE 7 which I cannot tie down on Google.

Keep Firefox and use it when required. Both IE 7 and Firefox cohabit peacefully - I use both and sometimes at the same time.

Sorry I can't be more helpful on the IE 7 download problem, but at least Firefox seems to do the job here.
