To anyone that might have an Idea or Solution.

I use the AFG anti-spyware scanner and was plagued with a constant medium threat "TRACKINGCOOKIE WEBTRENDS" every time that I ran this Scanner check. Someone suggested that I make sure that I had the latest version of EI so I updated to #7.?, the problem went away for a few weeks, but now it,s back.

How does that cookie get in? I thought that I was pretty safe, do you think that it might be some site that is installing it? Can I stop that specific cookie? how could that be done?

    Thanks Loonychoons Lenny Chowns

    Hi Lenny

Customize your privacy settings for an individual website
Cookies are files that are stored on your computer by some websites. They're usually used to keep track of information about you (for example, your user name, password, or the contents of your shopping cart). Internet Explorer privacy settings let you specify which cookies you want to allow to be stored on your computer.

To customize cookie settings for an individual website

In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Privacy tab, and then click Sites.
In Address of website, type the complete address (URL) of the website for which you want to specify custom settings. For example, http://www.microsoft.com.
To specify that you want Internet Explorer to always allow cookies from the specified website to be saved on your computer, click Allow. To specify that you want Internet Explorer to never allow cookies from the specified website to be saved on your computer, click Block.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each website you want to block or allow. When you are finished, click OK twice.
    Notes

Some websites require cookies. If you choose not to allow cookies to be saved on your computer, some websites might not display correctly.
When you change your privacy settings, the changes might not affect cookies that are already on your computer. To help ensure that all of the cookies on your computer meet your privacy settings, you should delete all of the existing cookies on your computer. When you return to websites that previously had saved cookies on your computer, the websites that meet your privacy settings will save cookies on your computer again. The websites that do not meet your privacy settings will not be allowed to save cookies on your computer.

First, thanks For your interest and your time with my concern. I had planed to do just what you suggested, "I appreciate the Step by step instruction that you gave me as I am sure that I would be a little Rusty at completing those settings ".

My explanation I now see , did not explain my complete problem? You see I don't know Which web site is responsible for installing that SAID COOKIE. Is there any way to ascertain who uses WEBTRENDS TRACKING COOKIES?

    Thanks again Lenny

    Hi Lenny.

Third-party cookies come from other websites' advertisements (such as pop-up or banner ads) on the website that you're viewing.
So it would be hard to pin point unless you see a banner or ad for WEBTRENDS, Google them and see what they are about and then you might get a idea on what ads or banners they use.

You can try and right click on the cookie and check properties but I doubt that will give you any info, but you can check.

    Thanks Geri:

Good advise. So what I will do is TURN ON and/or ALLOW Pop-ups for a little while, to see which sites that I visit might be a customer of WEBTRENDS.

Goodness only knows what site my Wife visits, but I will get her to check also.

I appreciate and thank you for your help. I know that when I type out anything of any length, that it does take time and energy. So Again thanks for your extensive replies to my posts. Lenny

    Hi Lenny
You should not have to do that, If you were getting the cookie with pop-up blocker on then you will not need to turn it off to get the cookie again.

If you turn it off, just be careful on which sites you visit, you don't want to pick up any nasties.

Thanks for the warning, but I never know or have any indication that I have inherited a cookie until I use my AFG Spyware Scanner and up come that WEBTRENDS tracking cookie?

When I Google Webtrends I find that anyone could be using that Tracking Program? Maybe I will visit all the sites that I normally go to one at a time and scan after each on until I find the Culprit? Lenny

You can prevent any cookie that you do not want by adding the domain to the IE Restricted Sites Zone. You can use a wildcard, meaning the asterisk.
    example:
*.webtrends.com will prevent webtrends cookies from any site that uses webtrends.com cookies, such as server1.webtrends.com, server2.webtrends.com, ads.webtrends.com, etc. etc.

Just be cautious because when using a wildcard you can inadvertantly block necessary cookies from sites like this forum!

FTI, spybot search & destroy as well as spyware blaster can add a few thousand sites to the Restricted Zone for you, many of which are webtrends type sites.

Yes I will be careful on what I block. If I try to call up a site that say "I must allow cookies" , depending on how bad I want or need that site, I will allow cookies on that instance.

P.S. when I did set up the cookie block I did not use the Wild card Option, and guess what ,there was a block already entered, but it was called ,{Webtrends Life} Thanks Again Lenny
