File format displayed with file name

    This is not really a problem ... more of a minor annoyance.

    Recently Windows Explorer started putting the file format at the end of the file name.
    So now every file name has .doc or .jpg or some other format designator at the end of it.
    I didn't change any settings ... it's just started doing it.

    It's annoying because now if I change a file name I have to remember to manually add the designator or I end up with a file that Windows doesn't recognize.

    So ... how do I change this so the format is no longer displayed with the file name.

    Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View and check 'Hide extensions for known file types'.
