Windows Vista Vista performance tweaks?

Well Dell is shipping a new laptop with Vista Home Basic on it (at the Small Business section, it was a good hundred bucks cheaper than the Ubuntu laptops, plus I got a DVD burner and a Radeon graphics card). I do have a gig of DDR2 RAM, and a dual-core AMD 64 processor. It has been at least four years since I was introduced to XP, and am not sure what tweaks I'm going to need to do to Vista.

Of course, black viper's site will help me turn off some settings. Apart from this, is there anything unique to Vista that I need to be aware of, in terms of fine-tuning its speed? I have no clue if Aero (or those angled windows) is going to be displayed--I'll probably disable it. I'm wondering if there are any performance tweaks that are unique to Vista that I can do. Thanks.

 

There were many private tweaks running around earlier, I wrote one myself. However, today most tips are consolidated into professional packages. Have a google for "Smoker Pro" and "tweak iv "

Also Windows Aero does not work under windows home basic only windows home premium, business and ultimate have this.
