All of a sudden, windows will not boot. It gets as far as the Windows Loading screen then goes blank and remains unresponsive.
I have tried to re-install from the CD-ROM but PC stops responding at the “Searching for previous versions of...” screen. This PC is only 6 months old. I run defender and CA Antivirus. Could it be a hardware issue?

Hello Graham and welcome to the Board,

To start diagnosing, can you get into Safe Mode? Tap the F8 key while booting up.

    Thanks for replying Charles,
I have the PC up and running now.
I couldn't get into safe mode or any other mode. I had to remove the drive and put in into another PC just to run a diagnostic; the results were the drive was ok.
I thought maybe the CD-ROM was faulty so I tried another one I knew was ok and still nothing. I think it may have been a virus to prevent boot.
I formatted the drive from the diagnostic tool installed on another PC, then re-installed the drive back into the original machine and re-installed windows. Luckily I had everything backed up too an external drive.

    Thumbs up
