Someone asked me recently how to tell what type of boards they were frequenting, ie Invision, vBulletin, phpBB, and I realized that I had no idea, other than scrolling to the foot of the main page to see what label was there.

For example, this forum page is labelled "Powered by vBulletin Version 3.5.4 "

But not all forums display the label.

Is there another way of telling?

Usually, forum software has a manufacturer link or copyright on the page somewhere, else the webmaster removed it. Sometimes, the manufacturer is visible in the source code: select View menu > View Source or View page Source and may see s/g like <meta name= "generator" content= "vBulletin x.x" /> or <meta name= "generator" content= "phpBB x.x" />. Else your guess is as good as any.

    Thanks TonyT - good call.

Yes, I can see it in the source code for this page.

    Cheers ;)
