    hello

    new member here.....

i just installed the win2000 service pack 3. the install took two attempts (i finally shut down most background apps to get the install to work), but now i have an automatic update icon in my system tray that i would like to get rid of. there appears to be no settings that i can configure to remove it.

    any suggestions?

    thank you

    :)

You have the option on your system properties sheet to disable the option and not to download any updates.

  3. to hide this advert.

thanks for the reply, eric. you state that i ....

"have the option on your system properties sheet to disable the option and not to download any updates "

but my stated problem is that i ....

"have an automatic update icon in my system tray that i would like to get rid of ".

if you are saying that i have an option in the system properties sheet to disable the icon, then that is precisely what i am looking for.

is that what you are saying? because i am not asking how to disable auto updates. i am asking how to lose the icon in the systray that has taken up residence there since installing SP3.

    thanks for your interest.

    :)

i got rid of the windows update icon that was appearing in my systray by clicking through the update wizard and selecting 'no auto update' option.

that is probably what eric was telling me to do, but it did not register with me.

manually updating my operating system is fine with me. i check every day or so for critical updates.

    :)
