Can anybody tell me why the actions in the Start Menu are so sluggish, and how to fix it? When I click on Start > All Programs and I hover the mouse on the items there, it takes a while to respond with the highlight. When the item finally highlights, it takes another bit of time to expand and show the contents of folders. Is there a fix for this? Are there any issues which you could point me to (Microsoft Help Center, maybe)? Any registry tips or flaws? Thank you guys.

In the Registry Editor, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Control Panel\ desktop, and add a string value named MenuShowDelay, (you might find it already there)with a value specifying the number of miliseconds (400 is default, smaller numbers are faster). I have mine on 70, which is pretty much instant.

Thanx uhaligani, but this is not it. I already have this value in the registry (it's Windows default by now), and it's set to 0. I think 70 is too much! In Vista, and I'm not talking about the classic menu, but the Vista Start Menu, which is a bit heavier, the actions taken after mouse hovering and mouse click are too laggy in my opinion. There must be something to do about it.

    Thanx again! :)

OK . Someone will probably come up with a solution. You could stick to the classic menu of course (?)

I turned off Aero but didn't change much! This Vista OS seems to take up every bit of resource a machine has, and together with there goes the good behavior of its own applications. Way to go, Bill!

    Thanx again.

Solved! It was surely some registry bad or null entry tampering with the Menu shell. Ran a regsacn prog and worked like a charm. Things are faster now. Thanx for the tips. :)
