I am moving house soon and need to update my details in the "autofill" function, but I can't find out how to acccess it. Anyone know how to get at what's stored there in order to edit it? I'm using using Firefox version 2.0.0.3

    Many thanks

    Gaston ...

I'm also running FF 2.0.0.3, but have no Autofill > Autofill Options selections on the Tools menu. Are you using an extension that provides this capability?

    TeenieB ...

A search of Mozillazine indicates that Autocomplete (Autofill) can be turned On/Off, but that there is no direct editing capability. Autocomplete information is stored in the history.dat file (no reason given why it isn't in formhistory.dat, instead) in the user profile, but the only way of editing it is by means of FF's History sidebar.

Like Gaston, I too have no Autofill > Autofill option on the Tools menu. If I'm using an extension, I didn't know that I was. Is it possible that I imported it from IE when I switched browsers?

Where do I find the history.dat file and can it be edited there? Any other thoughts?

    Hi TeenieB,

No. Other than the fact that they're both browsers, IE and Firefox have nothing in common.

The history.dat file is in your user profile (located in the C:\Documents & Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.profilename folder, unless you've created it somewhere else). The file is in an unusual format and can't be edited directly ... you can edit it only in the History Sidebar (accessed by pressing Ctrl +H, or from the View menu ... View > Sidebar > History). Unless you've changed the setting in Tools > Options > Privacy, entries are saved for only nine days, if I remember correctly.

I've just realised - this Autofill function is on the Google toolbar, so it's not really Firefox at all. I'm probably looking in the wrong place.

Having said that I don't know how to get at it via Google either. any thoughts on that?

Hmmm, I don't use the Google toolbar, so I can't answer your question. I'll give it a try, though, and see what I can learn.

I've just found it. There's an options button on the Google toolbar, and the third tab down is Autofill with Autofill settings.

I hope this is of use to others.. and thanks for your help

Interesting ... I just installed the Google toolbar, but probably won't keep it.

When I look at Options, Autofill is the sixth item down (see screenshot). Does your Options sheet look different?

AutoFill is a FireFox Add-ons but is only compatible with FireFox 1.5, i use Mr.Tech local install to make it compatible with FireFox 2.0.0.3. That's why i had autofill in tools menu.

Jim, this is a different subject but, I'll ask it here because it is here that prompted the question.

I been noticing the little thumb prints for bringing up screen shots your all time using and I been putting images on my web site and then having a link here on the bbs message to get to the image but, it appears you can pretty easily add a thumb print i.e. screen shot you call it and I been wondering how you do that.

I do notice that the screen shot link is here at windowsbbs.com so, you got my curousity up.

Perhaps you need to be a staff member. However, can you give us a clue how the screen shot gizmo work.

    Thanks,

Yes it does, but I think that's because you can add/remove options, and it's quite likely that I have less options installed than you do.

    Ray ...

Only contributing members and staff can post attachments (usually image files, but can also be pdf, txt, or zip files). That, alone, is worth the price of admission. :)

I've never attached anything but images (which, as you mention, are displayed in posts as thumbnails), so I can't tell you how the other filetypes are displayed.

    TeenieB ...

I don't see anything in Toolbar Options that would allow the number of Settings buttons on the Features sheet can be changed. If not selected (checked), the button is simply grayed out (see the screenshot in post #9 again).

FWIW, my Google Toolbar is a plain vanilla (default) installation ... I haven't changed anything.
