    Appreciate some assistance.

    Have an ActionTec modem with a PCTEL chip: PCT789T-C1.
    For some reason, the modem makes absolutely no sound when connecting through DUN.

    Tried ATM1 command, though CP>Modem>Modem Properties>Advanced Tab>Extra Settings, but no go.

    All is well in Device Manager, and there is a Wave Device for the Modem in (+)Sounds...

    Any ideas of how to make it do sounds?

    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Thanks for the reply.

    OS=W98SE

    Correct drivers are installed.

    Volume on the modem speaker has been set to "On" all the time.

    In MSInfo, the modem has a file named pctwave.inf which says driver not installed. However, in Device Manager, under Sounds, etc. Wave device for modem is OK.

    If this file is the culprit, any ideas on how to get it "alive "? Reinstalled/updated drivers several times already.

    After trying several suggestions, modem kept giving problems, even after downloading current drivers from manufacturer's website.

    Removed Modem and Modem Wave...from Device Manager in Safe Mode.

    Installed an identical modem (kept as a spare) using downloaded drivers.

    Modem works perfectly now. Connects, makes sounds, etc.

    Problem solved.
