    Hello here,

I have got a problem with a certain game in which I get a blue screen after a while (like 2-8 minutes).

    My system is:
    Windows Vista x64
    A8N-SLI Deluxe (Nforce 4 SLI)
    AMD Athlon 64 3700+ (939 version)
3072 mb of Corsair XMS Ram (DDR)
    Geforce 6800 ultra (forceware 158.18)

All other drivers are up to date. My dump file is:

I really have no clue what this means, do you guys know? It only happens with this certain game, but others do fine on vista x64.

I'd suspect that this was a driver issue (especially since it's 64 bit), but here's a link to a description of the error: http://aumha.org/a/stop.php#0xb8

Which driver? I dunno! I'm not real good with dump logs, so I'd suggest waiting for someone else to post some more info

Your drivers are the same as Seventhdaybass's:
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=64449
Realtek AC'97, Marvell Yukon, nForce4 chipset.

You can follow the links there to get the manufacturer's Vista versions.

The problem might just as easily be with audio drivers as graphics.

I tried installing my favourite game on Vista. It demands to use DirectX 9.0c (Vista has 10.0). I tried the install, but it was awful. I have gone back to running the game in Win XP.

Go to the Run line and enter dxdiag. It will tell you about the version of DirectX [I am disappointed to see dxdiag in DirectX 10.0 no longer has any "diagnostics ", what can you expect!]

Thx for the reply, my soundcard is a Creative X-fi (latest drivers) and I allready have installed the drivers for my chipset (15.00). So that can't be it. I have DirectX 10. It might be directx 10, but others don't have any problems with the game and are also running Vista x64. I allready tried installing 9.0c

I can only point out a few things.

The log only mentions Idle and Ntkrnlmp.exe. I can't find Ntkrnlmp.exe on my system, I see it is included in the SP2.cab of Windows XP. There is no reference to Ntkrnlmp.exe for Windows Vista at the MS Knowledgebase.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924441/en-us
Might tell you something, but does not refer to Vista. Maybe investigate if your system is using PowerNow! and if you can try turning it off.

If you are not using the onboard audio, I would disable it in the BIOS settings.

I allready disabled my onboard audio.

I have AMD indeed, but I have not installed powernow. I can't even find ntkrnlmp.exe (hidden files included). It is also not in my processes.

So how is it possible that file is in my dumpfile?

    Matt,
Did you install DX 9.0c. It will install alongside v10.0 in Vista, so games requiring v9 will install/run correctly.
I've never been able to find out why Vista only comes with DX 10 and not 9 & 10.

Hi Paul, I started reading the Readme's in some of my games and visited the DirectX game developers website. You're probably dead right. I installed my game before I had updated my drivers, but still, the people at the game's forum say it runs "slow" on Vista. I might try again now that the system seems up-to-date and I see that 9 & 10 should run side by side in Vista. Thanks for the info.

Milio, I did a quick course in "NT kernel ", but I am little the wiser. Does your search include hidden and system files? An error from a non-existent file

[Edit: Only a maybe...go to the game's executable (.exe) in it's program folder. Right-click on the file, select Properties, Compatibility tab, run it as under the original version...maybe you have already tried.]

yeah I know that is the strange thing... Allready searched for all files. I can find nktrlmp.exe, but that is only found in c:\symbols. This folder wasn't there when this crash first came though, so that can't be it.

    Compatibility doesn't work.

Try posting one or two more dumps & set your system for a full memory dump.

Allready tried that, the strange thing is, in the bluescreen it says it is generating a memory dump, but in fact it is not. Allready checked the pagefile.sys Everything seems to be fine...

Is the size of the page file large enough to fit the memory dump? AND is the page file on the system drive?

Yes, my physical memory is 3072 mb, my pagefile.sys on my system hard disk (or partition, although I don't work with them) is 3500 mb. Also have some on my other hard disk but that doesn't matter, because it is not saved there. (%systemroot%, so C:\Windows).

Allready tried to search memory.dmp as well > can't find it.
