    Hi,

    I have recently built a new pc running windows vista 64 bit. Upon start up of windows i see the following messages;

"Cant open kernel mode driver service "
"the system can not find the specified file "
    " can not load EIO.DLL "

The pc seems to work ok but i fear that it is a motherboard driver issue and i am therefore having problems finding a program to monitor board and processor temperatures. Im not sure if its related but programs such as Core Temp do not work and i keep getting driver failed to load messages.

    My system is as follows

Asus Striker Extreme nForce 680i motherboard
Intel core 2 duo extreme X6800
2 Gb corsair PC8500 dominator RAM
    ASUS EN8800GTX GPU

im sure the other specs are not relevant to this enquiry.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I saw a solution to a similar problem on these forums in XP but when i search my registry i do not find EIO.DLL

    Kind Regards

    Gary

If you can't find the EIO.DLL file, it's likely that that's the reason for the error message (Windows can't find it either).

64 bit Windows is a bear to find drivers for - I'd suggest first trying to find drivers to match all the installed devices.

Nice MOBO that Gary. Out of my league! :D Welcome to the forum!
I've had a bit of a look around. Seems that dll is part of Asus monitoring software. Maybe reinstall/update the MOBO drivers and Graphics card drivers. Uninstall any obvious monitoring software, or disable it.
As Usasma (John) suggests, it could be some sort of 64 driver issue. Although some with XP 32bit OS's have had issues. But definitly looks to be ASUS related.

    Hope this helps?

Thank you very much for your advice guys and thank you for welcoming me to the forum. It would seem that you were dead right Paul. I have disabled some of the silly extra software that came with the Striker and i no longer get the error message. I dont think i really need the Asus monitoring software really. I have the latest chipset and GPU drivers installed and my system appears to work fine so I am all happy at the moment. :)
Yes it is a nice motherboard but i feel that i have been a bit silly when it came to my hardware selections. I decided to buy the cream of the crop of everything when i built my PC with the idea that if im going to do it i may as well make it the best system i possibly could. I was one of those people naive enough to pay the silly prices charged by hardware makers for the "extreme edition" hardware. How silly of me to not buy mid range equipment and carry out some minor tweaking and overclocking for probably the same level of performance i am seing right now. Still you live and learn as they say!!!

    Yep,
Been there done that. Not so much with PC's, but I was the same with HiFi way back in the 80's. Did I really need to buy that Carver M1.5t 350W RMS power amp? NO, a 100W amp for a quarter (or less) of the price would have done.
I chalk that one up to experience. :D

Nice amp though. Still going strong! :)
