I just removed a ton of adware, spyware and the LOP/CID pop up malware from my daughter's WinXP PC -

and noticed that in Add or Remove Programs there is an entry for "Messenger Plus! 3 & Sponsors ".

When I try to remove this program it says the program wasn't properly installed so it has to presumably be re-installed before I can properly uninstall it.

Going to the Msngr Plus! site I can download Plus! ver 4.20 and install it but will this just create more problems and complications? (including more "Sponsor" - based ad/spy ware???)

I've looked/searched through my C drive and don't see any directory entries for Msngr Plus! so would I be better trying to remove the 'false' entry in the Add or Remove program" table - and if so how would I do this?

For example, can Tweak UI or something similar do this do this?

Is there another, better approach (ie. editing the Registry?) - since I'm worried about re-installing the Msngr Plus! program (especially if I need to over write ver 3 with ver 4.2 which might introduce new variables) and possibly repopulating the PC with more malware.

Thanks Whiskeyman - that was exactly what I was looking for and it worked perferctly!

Using regedit I located the Msngr Plus! 3 entry and deleted it which then removed it from the Add/Remove table. In the registry I also noticed where the msgr plus! exe and dll install files were stored and also deleted them.

Another quick question along the same line - I also note that in her Add/Remove program listings there are entries for both MSN Msngr and MSN Msngr 7.5; do you know if she still needs the original MSN (ver 4.5 I think?), or can I delete that program?

    Many thanks for your help.

I am not sure about removing the old version. I don't install or use any of the IM programs.
